Yojiro Imasaka will be guest of an artist residency at Spazio Berlendis from December 5th to December 21st, 2023. Focusing on exploring nature and using ancient photographic methods, Yojiro Imasaka’s residency project will center on representations of Venice before human settlement and perspectives that capture the original essence of the lagoon city. The artist will create photographs using the dry plate technique, a method famous in the late 19th century. The works will be imprinted on glass plates measuring 8×10 inches (20×25 cm) and then manually developed in a portable darkroom specially set up at Spazio Berlendis. A distinctive feature of Yojiro Imasaka’s works is the ability of the artist to convey a particular sense of time: through his images, the viewer will be transported into a bygone era and simultaneously into a possible post-apocalyptic scenario of Venice. The artist will explore the wetlands and the less populated islands of the lagoon, giving his shots nostalgic nuances capable of stirring emotions in the observer.
